A location check at clocking
CrewLoca requests location at clocking when the workplace rule requires it. It does not continuously follow a worker’s journey throughout the day.
The available workplace choices are a GPS boundary, location recording without a boundary, or no location requirement. Choose the rule that fits the work instead of applying the same restriction to every team.
For a required check, the browser supplies latitude, longitude, reported accuracy and the time of the location fix alongside the clocking action. The boundary check compares distance from the saved workplace point with its radius and the reported accuracy; it can mark a result as uncertain near the boundary. A missing, old or inaccurate fix is not treated as definite proof of being inside.
Allow for the limits of GPS
Phone permissions, indoor reception and device accuracy affect the evidence. A reported position is not perfect proof of a person’s identity or the work they performed.
Test the boundary where staff actually arrive. A site gate, an indoor stockroom and an upper-floor office may produce different results. A boundary that is too tight can create avoidable clocking problems.
- Check the workplace marker and boundary before use.
- Explain how to allow browser location access.
- Agree how staff report an unavailable or disputed location check.
- Review unusual records before approving hours.
Explain the rule to your team
Tell staff when location is requested, why it is needed and who can review it. Decide how remote work and temporary workplaces should be handled.
Geofencing is included in CrewLoca’s plan. It is an attendance aid, not continuous vehicle tracking or a guarantee against inaccurate reporting.
Common questions
Can a remote worker clock without a geofence?
A workplace can use location recording without a boundary or have no location requirement. The business chooses the appropriate rule.
Does geofencing prove someone worked the entire shift?
No. It provides location evidence at a clocking event. Managers still need to review the hours and exceptions.
